If you weren't sure: Vietnam Vets got screwed

WOW! Read this article regarding Agent Orange exposure to Vietnam Vets:

Agent Orange exposure tied to ills in Vietnam vets - Yahoo! News

Now, here is what I find fascinating about this:

"Study participants were surveyed by telephone in 1999 and
2000" - WTF! When I checked my calendar earlier today, it showed 2006. Surveys conducted in 1999 and 2000, results shown in 2006. Let me repeat that:

"Study participants were surveyed by telephone in 1999 and
2000"

It's 2006!!!

Now, given the impact exposure to Agent Orange has on our vets: "a 50 percent increased risk of diabetes, a 52 percent
greater heart disease risk, a 32 percent increased risk of
hypertension and a 60 percent greater likelihood of having a
chronic respiratory problem such as emphysema or asthma", it's rather disturbing that we took six years to come to the conclusion that "US Army veterans who were occupationally
exposed to phenoxyherbicide in Vietnam experienced
significantly higher risks of diabetes, heart disease,
hypertension, and non-malignant lung diseases than other
veterans who were not exposed to herbicides." Of course, it will be interesting to see what ends up being considered "occupationally exposed".
